Passengers evacuate American Airlines flight in Denver after cabin haze reported

Only one person suffered even a minor injury, and authorities are still investigating what caused the mysterious haze that prompted the evacuation.

It was a chaotic scene at the airport in Denver on Wednesday as passengers were forced to slide off the plane on emergency chutes due to possible smoke in the cabin.

The American Airlines flight, which came from Charlotte, N.C., was taxiing to the gate at Denver International Airport when someone reported smoke in the cabin at around noon yesterday. As a precaution, the pilot ordered that the chutes be deployed and the 158 passengers and six crew members immediately evacuate, according to an Associated Press report.

A minor injury was reported, but there were no further details on the extent of that injury or what caused it. There was no sign of an flames aboard the plane, and investigators are looking into what happened. The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration is working with American Airlines to figure out exactly what happened.

A passenger on the flight, Andy Long, said that he noticed a strange smell that resembled that from an emergency brake on a car, and then he noticed a light haze filling the cabin, according to the AP report. Shortly after, someone told everybody to get out as soon as possible and to leave their belongings.

It was about 20 minutes before buses were able to cart the passengers to the terminal, and it was two hours until they were reunited with their baggage.

Although people may have been annoyed at their travel plans being ruined, a passenger noted that at least everyone seemed to make it out OK.

American Airlines is a major United States airline that operates more than 600 aircraft and is headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas. In February 2013, the airline announced plans to merge with US Airways Group, which resulted in the creation of the largest airline int he world.
