Train cars carrying methanol derail in Texas

A train carrying methanol went partially off the tracks.

A train has ripped itself off the tracks in Texas, or at least several of the cars, and they derailed somewhere near the Valley Mills. Of the train cars involved in the incident, five of them were tankers carrying methanol.

Trooper D.L. Wilson, the spokesman of Department of Public Safety said that no fires or any injured people were reported from the incident that took place on Saturday. He also added that one or two of the hauling tanks with methanol did acquire small leaks.

Authorities did evacuate 10 nearby homes as a precautionary measure, and the residents were all permitted to return to their homes by 9pm that night.

The reason for the derailment is still unknown, although it could be attributed to the severe weather that has been recently experienced in the area. Heavy rains have been falling throughout the area. Not only can the weather be blamed for causing the incident in the first place, but it is in fact making the clean-up effort difficult as well.

Hazardous materials staff was also present at the scene.
