Patrick Dempsey’s wife files for divorce over ‘irreconcilable differences’

The couple have been together for over 15 years, but it's uncertain just how long they haven't been 'connecting.'

Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey, 49, and his make-up artist wife Jillian Fink, are divorcing after 15 years of marriage.  TMZ reported Fink filed the divorce papers, naming irreconcilable differences as the cause of the failed union.

According to USA Today, the following statement was issued by the family, “It is with careful consideration and mutual respect that we have decided to end our marriage.  Our primary concern remains the well-being of our children, and we ask with profound gratitude that you respect our family’s privacy at this very sensitive time.”

MTV disclosed Fink is seeking joint custody of she and Dempsey’s three children, Talulah Fyfe, 12, Darby Galen and Sullivan Patrick, 7-year-old twins.

After his first failed marriage to actress Rocky Parker, Dempsey gave love another shot, and he and Fink wed in July of 1999.  Fink backed Dempsey throughout his attempt to gain footing in Hollywood, struggling with the stigma of his 80’s rom-com past.  He found his calling card on Grey’s Anatomy, in his role of Dr. Derek (McDreamy) Shepherd, a neurosurgeon and heartthrob.

There wasn’t always trouble in paradise for Dempsey and Fink.  NY Daily News quoted a 2011 Good Housekeeping interview, where Dempsey “gushed” about his family life.  When asked what the best part of marriage is, Dempsey was quoted to say “feeling centered”.  Perhaps ironically, when asked what the worst part of marriage is, Dempsey said “not connecting”.

TMZ also disclosed the pair did not have a prenuptial agreement, leaving the $40 million dollar on the table.  An unidentified source told the magazine, “It remains to be seen whether it will be amicable.  She’s all about the kids.”

It is reported Dempsey was at a racing event in Daytona Beach, FL when Fink filed for divorce.
